Minna Ola

I first saw this toy in its beta stages at the AVN Expo in Las Vegas, 2011. I was so excited because it was new and different, and really brilliant for a lot of the folks who had asked me for a sex toy recommendation.

Now, you may look at it, and say “Shanna, the Minna Ola looks nice, but it just looks like a fancy Lelo or Je Joue toy, even down to the similar coloring!” This is true. And, like the Lelo sex toys, Je Joue Vibrators and even the Jimmy Jane sex toys, the Minna Ola charges, rather than runs on batteries (better for the environment and better for you; you don’t have to take the batteries out to travel, and you are never in fear of having to rustle through your remotes because you’ve used up all your spare vibrator batteries). So similar, yes, but also different.

Why? Because you create your own vibration patterns and it remembers them. While some toys may have 5, 7 or even 9 different vibration patterns, the Minna Ola vibrates as you squeeze the pad. The harder you squeeze, the more intense the vibrations. Once you let go, the vibrations stop. You want it to go start, build up, wind down, build up, wind down? Done. You want it to go on/off/on/off/on/off? Done. On for 7.5 seconds, off for 3.2 seconds, on for 3.2 seconds, off for 7.5 seconds? Done. Whatever vibrational pattern you want, you can make it happen, and it will memorize it for you. Oh the experiments I hope will happen!

Minna Ola is made of silicone, so is shareable if you sterilize it (I’d recommend wiping it down with a 10% bleach solution, letting it dry and then washing it off — don’t boil or dish wash this type of toy because it has electronic parts inside). Its design allows it to be used internally or externally (although not really both at the same time). Overall, it is a brilliant design by some nerdy folks who broke into the sex toy industry (after doing something more traditionally technical) with this incredibly creative idea.

Drawbacks? It is complicated to figure out the first time or two, especially if you are in the middle of the action (rather than sitting on the couch and reading the accompanying book to figure out exactly what does what and how to make it work the way you would like it to). Compared to some toys, like the Hitachi, it doesn’t have as much power as some people need…and yes, it is at a higher price point. However, you can get 10% off by entering shannakatz2013 at checkout, to make it a little bit more affordable. And oh yeah; it comes with a one-year limited product warranty. Heck, that is more than I can say for my hot iron!

Head over to the Minna Life site to buy your own Minna Ola, and don’t forget that shannakatz2013 gets you 10% off!

Mona 2

It’s time for another toy review…finally. I know it’s been a while, as I’ve been focusing more on book reviews.

Which toy is worth breaking the review hiatus? Well, not shockingly, it’s one from Lelo, one of my favorite sex toy manufacturers.  In fact, it is the fancy new and updated version of the Mona vibrator. It’s the Lelo Mona 2!

I really love Lelo because you know they are going to give you a quality toy made of good quality plastic (for the handle) and medical grade silicone for the vibrator itself. Medical grade silicone is hyopallergetic, body safe, phthalate free, and sterilizable (wipe it down with a 10% bleach solution, let it sit, and them rinse it off to sterilize it before sharing!). Moreover, it’s a more sustainable toy, because it’s rechargeable. Not only will you not have to deal with buying batteries (and perhaps running out at the exact wrong time), but it is more eco friendly to use this type of toy.

As compared to some of their older toys (my demo Lelo Gigi for workshops is circa 2007), I love the handle and the buttons on the new one. They are smoother, easier to use during sex (especially if your hands are all kinds of lube-y), and look cleaner as well.

Like most of the Lelo line, this toy packs power, and has a variety of power levels, as well as types of settings. Whether you are newer to toys, or want something that has more of a hardcore power level, this toy has all of the option. Plus, this one, like the Gigi, is designed specifically for G-spot stimulation. However, while the Gigi is great for beginners, this one is a little bigger, a little thicker, and really felt more fulfilling than the Gigi does, in that I like having a bit more girth than I used to when I got my own Gigi. Having the option to use it externally (clitorally, as well as on a scrotum, nipples, etc) or internally means that this is a toy for all types of wants and needs.

While personally not a fan of the pink color (excuse me, Cerise), I can highly recommend this toy to anyone looking for a vibe that is easy to use, made of quality materially, and can be used either externally or internally. Lelo has a history of making fabulous feeling, high quality toys, and the Mona 2 is certainly no exception.

love honey sqweel sex toy

Back in the day, I did a review of the original Sqweel from Lovehoney, and you can read that review here. I was a huge fan, and recommend it to folks that liked oral sex a lot, and we not getting it in the amounts that they desired, because it’s a close as you’re going to get to oral sex without having someone between your legs.

However, they have lately revamped the Sqweel, and come out with the Sqweel 2.0, a sex toy very similar to the first, but with a good handful of differences and updates. The most noticeable one is clearly the casing. I’m not going to lie; I really liked the old casing better. While this material is nicer, and more reminiscent of the LELO style of toys, I personally hate pink, and I also don’t really like being able to see the tongues. I’m guessing this was done so people could check out what is was in store. However, it makes it much less of a stealth toy that it was before, and a lot of the people I present to are interested in getting sex toys that don’t actually look like…well, sex toys.

That being said, I like the buttons a lot better on this, as well as the battery casing. This version is much easier to open to place batteries, and the front buttons make a lot more sense, and if you’re a partner using this on someone, you can actually see what is going on more. Plus, there are a lot more functions of the tongues going this way, and thata way, and back and forth, so you have a lot more options for figuring out what works for you. Additionally, the “lock” function is ideal for those who like to travel with their sex toys. Brilliant!

I still think this is a great toy for people of all genders — you can use the tongues (properly lubricated, of course, to reduce friction) on nipples, penises, scrotums, etc, in addition to the clitoris and labia for which it was pretty much designed. However, if you’re super sensitive, this new model seems to have a bit more power, so it might be a little bit too strong for you. On the other hand, if you like your toys to pack a punch, the Sqweel certainly has quite a bit of oomph to it. Of course, like all items I review, it is 100% body safe and phthalate free. Also, you can switch out the inner pink part of a variety of different types of simulators — there are nubs, bumps and more. It goes so far beyond just tongues on a wheel.

Interested? Want to be a Sqweel owner and join the lick-a-lot alone club? Head on over to Lovehoney and get one of your very own!

Here is a video review (thanks, as usual, to Fascinations, and especially to Matt) of the Je Joue G-Ki.

It’s a review of the G-Ki, which is this cool new G-spot vibrator from Je Joue that actually has two spiffy joints that bend, making it much easier to make this toy fit YOUR body and YOUR g-spot. Also, it’s a reachargeable toy, which gets a huge thumbs up from me, not only because I am eco-friendly, but also I hate having to deal with batteries, etc.

Check out the video review to see the toy and watch its awesome bendability, as well as hear my thoughts on this toy, and other G-spot superheros, like the Lelo Gigi.

Thanks again Fascinations! Enjoy the review/video (and all the fun and awkward noises I make to describe the vibrations)… Click here to get your very own G-Ki!

So here we have a vibrator that is a little different than your average vibe. Why? Because it’s coooooold. It’s a vibrator that uses/is made of ice. Not even kidding — this is the Ice Vibe by Touche. It’s a silicone toy with a little traditional bullet vibrator, but the actual part that winds up vibrating against your clit, or nipples, or testicles, or penis, or wherever you decide to put it, is made of ice. Perfect toy to cool down on a hot summer day. Want to see it and hear my thoughts about it? Check out my video review.

Thanks to Fascinations for the toy, as well as our Rockstar of Awesome Matt Helm who made the video. It’s actually quite an old review, but it got lost and we just found it, and figured that since it’s summer, what better time to share the Ice Vibe with you, right?
